Our snowmobile tours 2026–2027: every snowmobile safari we run

Snowmobile safari in Kuoksa Wilderness Park, Rovaniemi, Lapland, Finland. Snowmobile tour, snowmobile ride, snowmobile activity. Staylapland.

Every winter the question arrives in the same words: “Which of your snowmobile tours should we pick?” It is a fair question, because for winter 2026–2027 we run more than a dozen of them – short rides, long wilderness days, evening tours under the aurora sky and combinations with huskies, reindeer and ice fishing. This article lays all of them out in one place, the way we would explain them across the desk at our Safari House.

We are StayLapland, a family company in Rovaniemi. Most of our snowmobile tours start from Postikatu 1 in the city centre and include pick-up; a separate group runs at Lapland Winter Park, where you meet us on site. Every price, duration and rule below is copied from the product pages on our website, so what you read here is what you book.

In short: our most-booked starting point is the Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails – from 99 €, 3 hours in total with about 1 hour of driving, winter clothing and pick-up within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre included. If you want more time on the machine, the Wilderness Snowmobile Safari (from 199 €, 5 hours, about 2–2.5 hours of driving and a meal by the open fire) is the long version. All our snowmobile tours are listed on our snowmobile activities page.

How our snowmobile tours are organised

It helps to think of our snowmobile programme in four groups, because the group decides where you start, how long you drive and what else happens on the day.

Whichever you choose, the basics are the same (and if you are curious about the machine itself, see how a snowmobile works): a guide who explains how to drive safely before you set off, a helmet and balaclava, and warm overalls, boots and gloves on the tours where our product page lists winter clothing as included.

The classic safaris: private trails and the wilderness day

The Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails is our three-hour format. The drive out is part of the experience: we leave the main road for smaller and smaller roads until we reach a snowmobile base owned by the family, which sits by a frozen lake. Actual driving time is about one hour, which is why the product page describes it as a good length for families. Cookies and juice are included, and you are welcome to take photos with your own device. From 99 €.

The Wilderness Snowmobile Safari is the full day out: 5 hours in total, about 2 to 2.5 hours of driving, and a stop in the middle where lunch is prepared on an open fire. It is the tour for people who already know they want “proper” time on the machine. From 199 €.

If you would rather not share the trail with other guests, the Private Snowmobile in the Arctic Nature follows the same idea as the private-trails tour – about one hour of driving, a family-owned base by a frozen lake – but only for your group. From 990 €, priced for Twin Drive (two people per snowmobile), with tickets booked for every participant.

Short rides at Lapland Winter Park

Frozen Trails: 1-Hour Snowmobile Ride at Lapland Winter Park is our shortest snowmobile experience: 1 hour 30 minutes on site, approximately 45 minutes of driving through the snowy hill and forest of the park, and hot berry juice and cookies halfway. The list price includes a shared snowmobile (two people per machine), with a single-driver option for an extra cost. You can book it as late as 15 minutes before the start. From 99 €. There is also a private version for your own group.

One thing to note clearly: the Lapland Winter Park tours start at Ollerovaarantie 160, 96100 Rovaniemi, and the price does not include pick-up or drop-off. If you are staying in the centre, plan a taxi or your own car.

Snowmobiles and the Northern Lights

On the Northern Lights Tour Snowmobile Driving you drive for about an hour through the evening landscape and then warm up at a campfire in a teepee with local food and drinks, while the guide tells you about the aurora. It lasts 4 hours and starts from 149 €.

If you would rather sit back, the Northern Lights Tour Sleigh Ride takes you to a secluded forest spot in a sleigh pulled by a snowmobile – nobody in your group drives – with snacks and hot drinks by the teepee campfire. 4 hours, from 109 €. At Lapland Winter Park, the Northern Lights Snowmobile Adventure gives about 1 hour 15 minutes of driving and a BBQ by the fire, 2 hours 30 minutes in total, from 149 € (no pick-up). Private versions of the driving tour and the sleigh ride are available too.

We cannot promise the aurora on any of these evenings – nature decides. Our article on the Northern Lights season 2026–2027 and our tours explains how we plan the evenings and what the sky needs.

Combinations: ice fishing, reindeer, huskies and an overnight trip

Several of our day tours use the snowmobile as the way into the wilderness and then add something else:

Who can drive, who rides along – the rules we apply

These rules come straight from the “Important” sections of our snowmobile product pages. They are the same on almost every tour, so it is worth reading them once before you book:

Several longer tours are not recommended for children under 3 – the exact age note is on each product page.

What is included – and what is not

On the tours that start from Postikatu 1, the product pages list pick-up and drop-off within a 10 km radius of Rovaniemi city centre, in an air-conditioned car. Pick-up points include Postmaster Hotel, Aurora Hill Resort, the bus station, Rovaniemi Airport and many hotels in town, and custom pick-up is possible on request. Please be ready in your hotel lobby 10 minutes before your pick-up time.

Winter clothing – overalls, boots and gloves in adult and child sizes – is included on those tours, as are the helmet, balaclava and driving instructions. The guide speaks English; other languages are possible on request with limited availability, so send us an email or WhatsApp after booking if you need one.

Not included: pick-up for the Lapland Winter Park tours, the optional self-liability waiver, and the single-driver supplement where a tour is priced for two people per machine. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the activity; after that we charge 100%.

Timing, the season and combining with your stay

Snowmobile tours depend on snow and ice, so the first and last departures of winter 2026–2027 follow the conditions rather than a fixed date – our article on winter 2026–2027 opening dates explains how we open each tour. The live calendar on each tour shows what is bookable; if your dates are near the start or end of the season, ask us when booking.

For the classic tours, book at least 4 hours before the start time (the cut-off shown on the product pages); the short Frozen Trails ride can be booked up to 15 minutes before. Our book-early code gives 10% off winter activities for travel between 1.11.2026 and 31.3.2027, excluding husky and reindeer tours – the details are in our EARLY27 article.

If you stay with us at Postmaster Hotel in the city centre or at Aurora Hill Resort, both are on the pick-up list for our Rovaniemi snowmobile tours, so you simply wait in the lobby. A common pattern is a daytime safari one day and a Northern Lights evening on another.

Book this if – or choose another of our tours if

Book the Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails if this is your first time on a snowmobile, if you are travelling with children, or if you want a taste of driving without giving up half a day. Choose the Wilderness Snowmobile Safari if you want two hours or more behind the handlebars and a meal outdoors. Choose Frozen Trails if you have a car and only a short window. Choose a Northern Lights tour if the evening sky is the main reason for your trip – and the sleigh ride if nobody in your group wants to drive. If you are unsure, send us your dates and group and we will suggest the one that fits.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a driving licence to drive a snowmobile on your tours?

Yes. To drive, you must be 18 or older and have a driver’s licence. Passengers – for example the second person on a Twin Drive snowmobile or children in the sled – do not need one.

Can children join your snowmobile tours?

Yes. Children 140 cm or taller can sit on the snowmobile at the adult price; shorter children ride in a sled pulled by the snowmobile our guide drives. Children under 13 must be accompanied by adults paying the full price, and some longer tours are not recommended for children under 3.

Is pick-up included?

On our tours from Postikatu 1, pick-up and drop-off within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre are included. The Lapland Winter Park tours start at Ollerovaarantie 160 and do not include pick-up or drop-off.

What happens if it is extremely cold?

The tour may be cancelled or rescheduled in extreme weather. The temperature limit is −35 °C, and −25 °C for small children, for safety reasons.

What is the self-liability if the snowmobile is damaged?

The maximum self-liability is 900 €. You can buy a waiver for 25 €, after which the self-liability is 250 €.

How do Twin Drive tickets work?

Twin Drive means two people share one snowmobile. You book one ticket per person – for example 4 people book 4 tickets and use 2 snowmobiles.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the activity. If you cancel less than 24 hours before, we charge 100%.
