Many of our guests want to go out looking for the Northern Lights, but do not want to drive a snowmobile themselves, or are travelling with children who are too young to drive. That is exactly who we built the Northern Lights Tour Sleigh Ride for: you sit in a sleigh, one of our guides drives the snowmobile that pulls it, and together we head out of Rovaniemi into the dark forest.
This article explains how the evening runs from pick-up to drop-off, what is and is not included, and the rules we apply for safety. Everything here comes from the tour’s own product page, so it is what you will actually get when you book with us.
In short: our Northern Lights Tour Sleigh Ride costs from 109 € per person and lasts 4 hours. It starts at 19:00 and you are back in Rovaniemi city centre at around 23:00. A guide-driven snowmobile pulls the sleigh for roughly 1–1.5 hours into our own land at Kuoksa Wilderness Park, where a campfire in a teepee, local snacks and hot drinks are waiting. Pick-up within 10 km of the city centre, winter clothing and an English-speaking guide are included.

How the evening starts: pick-up in Rovaniemi
The tour begins at 19:00. We collect you from your accommodation if it is within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre; this transfer is included in the price. The meeting and starting point is Postikatu 1, 96100 Rovaniemi, and our list of regular pick-up points includes Postmaster Hotel, Aurora Hill Resort, Rovaniemi Airport, the bus station, Santa Claus Holiday Village and most city hotels. Custom pick-ups are possible on request; just tell us your address while booking.
Please be ready and waiting in your hotel lobby 10 minutes before your pick-up time. The transfer itself is outside the 4-hour activity time, so we suggest keeping 15–30 minutes free before and after the tour.

Dressing for the Arctic: the gear we lend you
You do not need to own proper Arctic clothing to join. We provide winter clothing in adult and child sizes: overalls, boots and gloves. For the sleigh ride itself you also get a helmet and a pair of balaclavas.
What we do suggest is wearing your own warm base layers underneath, such as wool or thermal clothing. Our sleigh is cosy and warm, but you will be outdoors for much of the evening, and Lapland winter nights can be very cold.
The sleigh ride to Kuoksa Wilderness Park
From Rovaniemi it takes about 30 minutes to reach the activity location. The sleigh is pulled by a snowmobile driven by one of our guides, so you can simply sit back, keep warm and watch the snowy forest go by. Our sleigh holds up to 16 people.
The sleigh ride lasts approximately 1–1.5 hours and covers several kilometres into the Arctic wilderness, away from city lights. We head to Kuoksa Wilderness Park, which is on our family’s private land. Our family has lived in connection with the lands of Kuoksa for four generations, and its peace and darkness are what make it a good place to watch the sky.
At the teepee: campfire, snacks and the night sky
At our spot in the forest a campfire is burning inside a teepee. Here you warm up with local snacks and hot drinks, such as hot blueberry juice while your guide tells you about the Northern Lights: what they are, why they appear and what to look for in the sky.
When the sky is clear and the aurora is active, you step out of the teepee to watch it. Photos are taken with your own device, so bring a phone or camera with a charged battery. If you would like to understand the science before the trip, our guide How are auroras formed? is a good place to start.
We need to be honest about one thing: the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and we cannot guarantee a sighting, because it depends on the weather and on solar activity. What we can promise is a dark location away from city light, a warm fire and a guide who knows the sky.

Who this tour suits, and when to choose another of ours
The sleigh ride is rated very easy and there is no maximum age, so it suits families, grandparents and anyone who simply wants to be driven into the forest in comfort. The recommended minimum age is 3 years, because winter conditions can be too harsh for infants.
Book this if you want the forest, the campfire and the chance of auroras without driving yourself, or if you have children who are too young for a snowmobile.
Choose another tour if you want to drive: our Northern Lights Tour Snowmobile Driving (from 149 €, 4 hours) includes about one hour of driving time, for drivers aged 18 or over with a driving licence. If you want the shortest and simplest evening, our Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire (from 99 €, 3 hours) takes you by car to our viewing spot without the sleigh ride. You can see all our tours on the activities in Rovaniemi page.

Combining the sleigh ride with your stay
Because pick-up is included within 10 km of the city centre, the sleigh ride is an easy evening to add to a stay at our own hotels. Postmaster Hotel is right in the heart of Rovaniemi, next to the railway and bus station, and Aurora Hill Resort, about 10 minutes from the city centre, is the highest located resort in Rovaniemi, with glass-roofed cabins for watching the sky from bed. Both are on our pick-up list.
You can also pair an evening aurora tour with a daytime activity at Kuoksa, such as meeting our huskies or reindeer. For timing and season, read our overview Northern Lights season 2026–2027 in Rovaniemi; the booking calendar below shows which dates are open.
