Winter gear provided on our tours: overalls, boots, gloves and more

StayLapland rent premium winter clothing in Rovaniemi 2

One of the first questions we get on WhatsApp after someone books is some version of “what do I need to pack?”. It is a fair question: most guests arrive from places where −20 °C is something you only read about, and nobody wants to buy an expedition wardrobe for a four-night holiday.

The short version is that on most of our winter tours in Rovaniemi the warm outer layer is our job, not yours. This article explains exactly which winter gear is provided on our tours, how it differs between a snowmobile safari, a husky ride and a reindeer safari, and the handful of activities at Lapland Winter Park where clothing is not included and you either bring your own or rent a set from us.

On our guided winter safaris from Rovaniemi, winter clothing in adult and child sizes is included in the price. On the Wilderness Snowmobile Safari (from 199 €, 5 hours) that means overalls, boots and gloves, plus the snowmobiling equipment: a helmet and a balaclava. Several tours, such as the Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure, also list socks. The exception is some activities at Lapland Winter Park, where thermal clothing is not included; for those you can rent a winter clothing set from 45 € per day.

What we mean by “winter gear provided”

Every product page on our site has a “What’s Included” list, and that list is the promise. When it says “Winter clothing (Adult & Child size), overalls, boots, gloves”, those are the pieces our guide hands you before the activity starts. We keep them in adult and children’s sizes, so a family does not need to hunt for a toddler snowsuit before flying north.

The general answer in our tour FAQs is that we provide warm clothing for our activities – overalls, woollen socks, gloves, hats and warm shoes – in all sizes. In practice, the exact list differs a little from tour to tour, so the product page for the tour you booked is the one to trust. You will find all of them under activities in Rovaniemi.

What we do not provide is what goes underneath: your base layers, a warm mid-layer such as a fleece or wool jumper, and your own hat if you prefer it to ours. The overall is designed to go over normal clothing, not to replace it.

Snowmobile safaris: overalls, boots, gloves, helmet and balaclava

On the Wilderness Snowmobile Safari the included list reads, word for word:

The helmet and balaclava are part of the snowmobiling equipment, so you wear them for the whole of the roughly 2 to 2.5 hours of driving time. The balaclava sits under the helmet and covers your face and neck, which matters more on a moving snowmobile than anywhere else, because the wind of your own speed makes the cold feel sharper.

Our other snowmobile tours follow the same pattern. The Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails (from 99 €), for example, lists a helmet, a balaclava, overalls, boots, gloves and socks.

Husky and reindeer tours at Kuoksa

At our Kuoksa sites the clothing comes with the tour in the same way. On the Nulkki Husky Adventure (from 189 €, 4 hours) the page lists winter clothing in adult and child sizes: overalls, boots and gloves. On the Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure (from 159 €, 3 hours) it is overalls, boots, gloves and socks.

A few of our tours describe the kit a little differently – thermal winter overalls, winter boots, and beanies and mittens in adult and children’s sizes. That wording appears, for instance, on our Northern Lights Tour Reindeer Safari and on Ice Fishing at Private Kuoksa Lake.

If you are curious how the dog side of a husky day works, our guide to husky tours in Rovaniemi goes through it step by step.

Where clothing is not included: Lapland Winter Park

Some activities at Lapland Winter Park are shorter tickets that you join on site, and they work differently. The Arctic Paws family husky ride (from 59 €) states clearly that the tour does not include thermal clothing, and that the price does not include pick-up or drop-off.

The snowmobile rides at the park, such as the 1-hour Frozen Trails ride, do list winter thermal clothing: overalls, boots, gloves, balaclavas and helmets. So even within one location it is worth reading the “What’s Included” and “Exclusions” lists of the exact ticket you book.

Renting a winter clothing set for the rest of your stay

Tour clothing is for the tour: you put it on at the start and hand it back at the end. For walking around town, visiting the Arctic Circle or joining an activity without clothing included, we rent full sets through our premium winter clothing rental.

Both sets cost 45 € for one day, 75 € for two days, 95 € for three days and 110 € for four days, then 10 € for each additional day. Adult sizes run from XS to XXL and children’s sizes from 92 cm to 140 cm; boots come in EU sizes 22–46. For hygiene reasons a beanie is not part of the set, but you can buy one for 35 € and keep it. We can deliver the gear to your accommodation within the Rovaniemi area (up to 20 km) for a delivery fee of 70 € per order, or you can collect it from our pick-up point.

What to bring underneath

Because the outer layer is covered, the useful packing list is short. We suggest thermal underwear or another close-fitting base layer, a warm mid-layer, and your own warm socks as a spare pair even on tours where socks are provided. A thin pair of liner gloves helps if you want to use your phone for photos – photos with your own device are part of every tour listed above.

If you are unsure whether what you packed is enough, send us a message before the day and we will tell you honestly.

Cold limits and the small print

Warm clothing does not make every day safe to be outside. Our snowmobile safari and the Nulkki Husky Adventure pages state that the product may be cancelled or rescheduled in extreme weather conditions, with a temperature limit of −35 °C, and −25 °C for small children. The Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure states that it may be cancelled or rescheduled in case of extreme weather conditions, and that if conditions do not allow a sleigh ride, the tour becomes a reindeer walk instead.

Other points worth knowing before you book: our snowmobile safari is not recommended for children under 3, drivers must be 18 or older with a driving licence, and children shorter than 140 cm ride in the sled pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Free cancellation applies up to 24 hours before the activity on all three tours in this article.

Combining a tour with your stay

If you stay with us at Postmaster Hotel or Aurora Hill Resort, both are on the pick-up list for the snowmobile, husky and reindeer tours above, so you can walk out of the lobby in your own clothes and change into the tour gear on location. If you are planning evening activities as well, our article on the Northern Lights season 2026–2027 explains how our aurora tours are organised – most of those include winter clothing too.

Book the Wilderness Snowmobile Safari if you want a full day outside with everything from helmet to boots handled for you. Choose the Nulkki Husky Adventure or the Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure instead if you prefer animals to engines, and add a rental set only if your plans include activities without clothing, such as Arctic Paws.
