Safari House Rovaniemi: where our tours start and how pick-up works

StayLapland Northern Lights tour at the campfire. Northern Lights safari, northern lights activity. Rovaniemi, Lapland, finland. Kuoksa wilderness park

One of the most common messages we get after someone books a tour is simple: where exactly do we go? It is a fair question. Rovaniemi is small, but winter days are short, the pavements can be icy and nobody wants to walk the wrong way in the cold looking for a door.

This is our own guide to how the start of a StayLapland activity works: our Safari House on Pekankatu, the meeting point listed on our product pages at Postikatu 1, and the pick-up that is included in the price for most of our tours. Everything below comes from our own product and contact pages, so it matches what you see when you book.

Short answer: StayLapland’s Safari House, our safari office and dressing room, is at Pekankatu 3, 96200 Rovaniemi. Our product pages list Postikatu 1, 96100 Rovaniemi, the address of our Postmaster Hotel, as the meeting point. For most of our tours you do not need to come to either: pick-up and drop-off are included within a 10 km radius of Rovaniemi city centre. On our Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire (from 99 €, 3 hours), for example, we collect you from your accommodation, and you simply wait in your hotel lobby 10 minutes before the pick-up time.

Our Safari House on Pekankatu 3

On our contact page the Safari House is listed as our safari house / dressing room for activities and for Kuoksa Wilderness Park, at Pekankatu 3, 96200 Rovaniemi. It is the base of our activities team, the people you reach at booking@staylapland.com or on +358 40 128 7846.

If you would rather come to us than wait for a pick-up, you are welcome to: our locations page says you can start your adventure directly at our safari office on Pekankatu, and that it is easy to reach by bus or on foot from the city centre. If you plan to do this, tell us when you book so the guide knows to expect you there rather than at a hotel.

The meeting point on our product pages: Postikatu 1

Every activity page on staylapland.com has a Meeting and Pick-up Point section. For our Northern Lights, snowmobile and aurora hunting tours the meeting point shown there is Postikatu 1, 96100 Rovaniemi, with a Google Maps link. That is the address of the Postmaster Hotel, our family’s hotel in the historic post office building next to the railway and bus stations.

Two facts from our own pages make this a practical starting point:

So Pekankatu 3 is where our activities team works and where you can start if you prefer, and Postikatu 1 is the meeting point our booking system shows. If the two ever seem to disagree in your confirmation, send us a WhatsApp and we will tell you exactly where your guide will be that day.

How our free pick-up works

For most people the answer to where do we meet? is in your hotel lobby. Our locations page states that we offer complimentary pick-up and drop-off within a 10 km radius of Rovaniemi city centre for all our tours, included in the price. Each activity page repeats it in its What’s Included list.

How it runs on the day:

  1. You book the tour and choose your pick-up place from the list on the booking form, or tell us your accommodation.
  2. We confirm the pick-up time with you.
  3. You wait in your hotel lobby 10 minutes before that time. This is written into the Important section of our product pages, because the car keeps a schedule and collects other guests too.
  4. After the activity we drive you back.

Our product pages also say that custom pick-up is possible on request. If you are staying in a flat or cabin that is not on the list, write the address in your booking or message us, and we will tell you whether it falls inside the 10 km radius.

Pick-up places we list

The pick-up list differs slightly from tour to tour, so always check the page of the tour you are booking. On the Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire it currently includes, among others:

One exception to know about: our Professional Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Tour by Bus works with fixed pick-up points instead: Postmaster Hotel, Aurora Hill Resort, Santa Claus Village and Rovaniemi City Centre at Korkalonkatu 26. Its page also does not list door-to-door pick-up in the What’s Included section, so check that page before you book.

Winter clothing, luggage and the practical details

The reason we call Pekankatu a dressing room is that warm clothing is part of most of our winter activities. On both the campfire tour and the snowmobile tour, the included list says: winter clothing in adult and child sizes, with overalls, boots, gloves and socks. Your guide tells you where and when you change into it for your tour.

If you arrive early or leave late, our luggage storage at Postmaster Hotel, Postikatu 1, is free for hotel guests and activity customers. That makes it easy to join an evening tour on your departure day and collect your bags afterwards.

A few rules from our product pages that are worth knowing before you set off:

Staying with us: Postmaster Hotel and Aurora Hill Resort

If you stay at Postmaster Hotel, the meeting point is your own front door: the hotel page says pick-up and drop-off straight from the hotel for the experiences in our Kuoksa Wilderness Park. The same applies at Aurora Hill Resort in Ollerovaara, about a 10-minute drive from the centre, where pick-up and drop-off go straight from the resort.

That is why many guests book a stay and two or three activities together. Planning a winter trip? Our EARLY27 code explained covers the book-early discount on winter activities, and Northern Lights season 2026–2027 in Rovaniemi explains how our aurora tours differ.

Book the tour, and we will handle the start

Book this if you want the simplest possible start to an evening: the Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire collects you, dresses you warmly and takes you to our viewing spot with a campfire in a teepee, a snack and a hot drink. It is rated very easy, but it is not wheelchair or stroller accessible.

Choose the Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails instead if you want to drive. It follows the same pick-up rules, with about an hour of driving to a family-owned base by a frozen lake. You need a driving licence and must be 18 or older to drive a snowmobile. Browse all our activities in Rovaniemi to compare.
