“Is it too late to book for tonight?” is a very natural question in Rovaniemi. Plans in Lapland change quickly: the sky clears, a flight lands early, the children wake up full of energy. So people want to know how late they can still book a tour with us.
The short answer is that every StayLapland tour has its own booking cut-off, shown on the product page as “Book in Advance”. It is the latest point before the start time when our online booking still accepts a reservation. Below we go through the cut-offs of our tours, why they differ, and what to do if you have missed one.
For most of our guided tours from Rovaniemi the cut-off is between 3 and 12 hours before the start time. Our Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire (from 99 €, 3 hours) can be booked online until 3 hours before it starts, and the Professional Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Tour from Rovaniemi by Bus (from 109 €) until 1 hour before. A few experiences close a full day ahead. Tickets at Lapland Winter Park close from 15 minutes before the start down to 0 minutes. Online booking only works while there is space left on the departure.

What “Book in Advance” means on our product pages
Every activity page on staylapland.com has a short facts line near the top: experience type, duration, difficulty and “Book in Advance”. The last one is the cut-off. When it says “Cut off: 3 hours before start time”, the booking calendar lets you reserve that departure until three hours before it begins. After that point the departure disappears from the online calendar.
The cut-off is not the same as the cancellation rule. For our guided tours the cancellation policy is written separately on each page: free cancellation 24 hours before the activity, and a 100% fee if a booking is cancelled less than 24 hours before. So a booking made three hours before a tour starts is already inside the no-refund window. Please book late only when you are sure you are coming.

Why the cut-offs differ from tour to tour
In general, a cut-off reflects the time our team needs to prepare your tour properly. Before a guided tour we plan pick-ups, reserve winter clothing in the right sizes, and, for animal tours, prepare the huskies or reindeer and their handlers. Tours that involve more people, more equipment or animals therefore close earlier. Self-guided tickets at Lapland Winter Park need almost no preparation, so they stay open until just before the start.
That is why you will see a Northern Lights evening that closes one hour before the start and a husky and reindeer day that closes a full day ahead. Neither is arbitrary: both reflect what has to happen before we can welcome you.
Northern Lights tours: from 1 to 4 hours before
Aurora evenings are the tours people most often decide on at short notice, because they are watching the forecast and the clouds. These are the cut-offs stated on our pages:
- Professional Guaranteed Northern Lights Hunting Tour from Rovaniemi by Bus: 1 hour before start time. The start time can vary between 17:00 and 21:00 and is confirmed by email by 14:00.
- Professional Small Group Northern Lights Hunting Tour from Rovaniemi – Guaranteed: 1 hour before start time.
- Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire: 3 hours before start time.
- Northern Lights Tour in Atmospheric Cottage: 3 hours before start time.
- Northern Lights Tour Sleigh Ride and Northern Lights Tour Snowmobile Driving: 4 hours before start time.
- Northern Lights Tour Reindeer Safari: 4 hours before start time.
- Northern Lights Snowmobile Adventure at Lapland Winter Park: 4 hours before start time.
- Overnight Northern Lights Tour & 2 Full Days of Snowmobiling: 24 hours before start time.
You can see all of them together on our Northern Lights tours page.
Snowmobile, reindeer and husky tours
Motorised tours and animal tours need more preparation, so their cut-offs are longer:
- Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails: 4 hours before start time.
- Wilderness Snowmobile Safari: 4 hours before start time.
- Ice Fishing with Snowmobiles: 3 hours before start time.
- Kuoksa Reindeer & Snowmobile Adventure and Ice Fishing with Reindeer: 8 hours before start time.
- Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure: 12 hours before start time.
- Nulkki Husky Adventure and Kuoksa Husky & Snowmobile Adventure: 12 hours before start time.
- Kuoksa Husky & Reindeer Adventure: 1 day before start time.
- Lapland Bucketlist Adventure with Huskies, Reindeer & Snowmobiles: 4 hours before start time.
If you would like to drive a snowmobile yourself, remember the rules on the product page: you must be 18 or older and hold a driver’s licence. Checking this before you book late saves a disappointing morning.

Lapland Winter Park: the most flexible option
At Lapland Winter Park the tickets are built for spontaneous visits. The Area Ticket and the Lunch Buffet have a cut-off of 0 minutes. The Ice Karting Ticket, the Mini Snowmobile Ticket for Children, Frozen Trails: 1-Hour Snowmobile Ride and Arctic Paws, the 2 km family husky ride, close 15 minutes before the start. The Sauna World Ticket closes 2 hours before and the eFatbike-safari 8 hours before.
If you are already in Rovaniemi and want something for this afternoon, the park is usually the answer.
When the cut-off has passed or the calendar looks empty
An empty calendar can mean two different things: either the departure is past its cut-off, or it is already full. In both cases please do not give up straight away. Message us on WhatsApp at +358 40 128 7846 or email booking@staylapland.com. We cannot promise a place after the cut-off, but we can tell you honestly whether another departure or a similar tour still has room.
Some of our packages, such as the Christmas, birthday, proposal and spa packages, do not show a cut-off time on their pages at all. For those, please contact us before booking so we can confirm what is possible on your date.
Small print that matters when you book late
A few rules on our product pages are especially important for last-minute bookings:
- Minimum group size: tours such as the Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire and the Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails need at least 2 people on weekdays and Saturdays, and at least 4 people on Sundays and public holidays. A departure may be cancelled or rescheduled if the group is smaller.
- Pick-up: please be ready and wait in your hotel lobby 10 minutes before your scheduled pick-up time. Pick-ups and drop-offs are included within a 10 km radius of Rovaniemi city centre on the tours that list them.
- Weather: tours may be cancelled or rescheduled in extreme weather. On the Arctic Snowmobile Tour on Private Trails the temperature limit is −35 °C, and −25 °C for small children.
- Languages: guides speak English; other languages are available on request with limited availability, which is harder to arrange at short notice.
If you are staying with us at Postmaster Hotel or Aurora Hill Resort, both are on the pick-up lists of our main tours, which makes a late decision a little easier.
Frequently asked questions
How late can I book the Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire?
Online booking closes 3 hours before the start time, as long as the departure still has space.
Which StayLapland tour can I book closest to the start?
Our Northern Lights hunting tours by bus and in a small group close 1 hour before the start. At Lapland Winter Park, the Area Ticket and the Lunch Buffet have a 0-minute cut-off.
Is the booking cut-off the same as the cancellation deadline?
No. For our guided tours, cancellation is free until 24 hours before the activity; after that the fee is 100%. A late booking is therefore non-refundable under the standard policy.
The tour is not in the calendar any more. Can you still fit us in?
Sometimes. Send us a WhatsApp message at +358 40 128 7846 or email booking@staylapland.com and we will check honestly, but we cannot promise a place after the cut-off.
Do I need to book husky and reindeer tours earlier?
Usually, yes. Our guided husky and reindeer tours from Rovaniemi close between 4 hours and 1 day before the start, depending on the tour. The short Arctic Paws husky ride at Lapland Winter Park is the exception: it closes 15 minutes before the start.
What is the cut-off for private tours?
It depends on the tour: from 3 hours for the Private Northern Lights Tour At The Campfire to 12 hours for the Private Nulkki Husky Adventure. Each product page shows its own cut-off.
