If you are coming to Rovaniemi for Christmas, you probably hope the room will already feel like Christmas when you walk in. After a long journey north, nobody wants to go shopping for decorations in a town they don’t know yet, and a hotel room rarely has a tree in it.
That is exactly why we put together a Christmas package in Rovaniemi for our own accommodation. This article explains our smaller option, the Elf’s Christmas Package: what we set up for you, what it includes and what it doesn’t, where it is available, how it fits with the rest of your stay, and when our bigger Santa’s Christmas Package is the better choice.
In short: the Elf’s Christmas Package costs from 399 € and means your accommodation is prepared with Christmas decorations before you arrive. It includes a decorated Christmas tree, minimal festive elements, LED candles, glögi bar supplies and Finnish Christmas snacks. It is a room set-up, not a guided tour, so there is no fixed duration or start time.

What the Elf’s Christmas Package is
The idea is simple. You arrive, open the door and the festive atmosphere is already there. In the words of our product page, your accommodation is “beautifully prepared with carefully selected Christmas decorations, creating the perfect setting to relax and celebrate the holiday season”.
We describe the Elf’s package as our lighter Christmas set-up. It is deliberately “minimal”: a tree, some festive touches, candlelight and the things you need for a relaxed evening with glögi and something sweet or savoury from the Finnish Christmas table. It does not take over the room, and it does not need you to do anything once you are there.
Because it is prepared in your own room or cabin, it works whatever else you plan to do during the day. You can come back from a tour in the dark afternoon, warm up and enjoy a quiet Christmas evening without having organised anything yourself.
Exactly what is included
This is the full list as it appears on the product page. We would rather be precise than promise more than we deliver:

A few honest notes on that list. The candles are LED candles, not real flames, which is what you want in a hotel room or wooden cabin. “Glögi bar supplies” means what you need to serve glögi in your room; the product page does not list the exact items, so if you have a preference (for example an alcohol-free option for the whole family), tell us when you book. The same goes for the snacks: we don’t publish a fixed menu, so please mention any allergies or dietary needs in advance.
What is not included: the accommodation itself, meals, transport, activities or a visit from Santa Claus. Those you book separately, and we explain below how they combine.
Where we set it up: Postmaster Hotel and Aurora Hill Resort
The photos on the product page show the Elf’s Christmas Package set up in two of our own places, so these are the natural homes for it. If you are staying somewhere else, please ask us before booking.
Postmaster Hotel is our historic hotel in the heart of Rovaniemi, next to the railway and bus station. Its suites range from the Superior Twin Suite to the Family Suite for up to five guests, and each has a kitchenette. Downstairs is Leima Kitchen & Bar, with the lounge bar, breakfast, lunch and Lappish–Finnish bistro dishes. For a Christmas stay this means you can walk out into the town centre in the evening and come back to a decorated room.
Aurora Hill Resort is our family-owned resort of handcrafted cabins and, as our resort page puts it, the highest located resort in Rovaniemi, about 10 km from the city centre. Breakfast is included and delivered daily to your cabin, and guests get free access to the Northern Lights Alert App. A tree and candlelight in a cabin up on the hill is a very different Christmas mood from the town-centre hotel.
Glögi, snacks and a Finnish Christmas evening
Glögi is the Finnish version of mulled wine, the warm spiced drink you smell everywhere at Finnish Christmas markets. Having the supplies for it in your room is the heart of this package: it turns an ordinary evening in into a small Christmas ritual.
In Lapland in December the days are short and the evenings long, so a lot of the Christmas atmosphere happens indoors. A warm drink, candlelight and a tree in the corner are simple things, but after a day outside in the cold they make the room feel like Christmas.
If you want to add something special for the children, you can leave the package to set the scene and book one of our Santa experiences separately (more on that below).

Which of our two Christmas packages fits you
We offer two Christmas packages. The Elf’s package is the lighter one. The Santa’s Christmas Package, from 699 €, is described on its page as a premium festive experience that brings “the warmth and charm of a traditional Finnish Christmas” into your accommodation.
Compared line by line, Santa’s Christmas Package includes the decorated Christmas tree, LED candles, glögi bar supplies and Finnish Christmas snacks, and adds festive textiles and details and red wine. The Elf’s package has “minimal festive elements” in place of the textiles and details, and no red wine.
So the choice is mostly about how fully decorated you want the room to be. If you want a cosy, understated Christmas corner, the Elf’s package does that. If you want the whole room dressed for Christmas and a bottle of red on the table, choose Santa’s.
Adding a visit from Santa Claus
The Christmas packages do not include Santa, but we run two Santa experiences that fit naturally around them:
- Private Santa’s Surprise visit, from 199 €, 15 minutes: Santa comes to your hotel room, chats with the family, reads a short Christmas story or poem, and you can hand him your own gifts beforehand so he can give them to the children. The booking conditions on the product page say it is available to guests staying at Postmaster Hotel or Aurora Hill Resort, and only guests staying in the booked room may take part.
- Magical Private Santa Visit, from 249 €, 1.5 hours: your own Santa’s Elf picks you up (pick-up and drop-off within 10 km of Rovaniemi city centre are included) and takes the family to Santa’s Secret Hide-out for a 30-minute private meeting, warm berry juice and cookies, and a gift for each child.

Timing, booking and the small print
The Elf’s Christmas Package is booked through the booking button on this page and on the product page, like our tours. Some things are not spelled out on the product page, and we don’t want to guess them for you:
- Dates: the product page does not publish a fixed period. Check the calendar in the booking window, or ask us which dates are possible for your stay.
- Price basis: the price is shown as “from 399 €”; the booking window shows the final price for your selection.
- Cancellation: the product page does not state a separate cancellation policy for the package, so please ask us when booking.
- Your accommodation: tell us where you are staying, so we can confirm we can prepare the room before you arrive.

Book the Elf’s Christmas Package if you are staying with us over the festive season, you want Christmas to be waiting in your room without any effort, and you prefer a cosy, simple set-up with glögi and snacks rather than a fully decorated room.
Choose Santa’s Christmas Package instead if you want the fuller version with festive textiles and red wine. Choose a Santa experience instead (or as well) if what you really want is for the children to meet Santa Claus; the packages themselves set the scene but do not include him.
