Every season we get the same good question by email and WhatsApp: “Which of your reindeer tours should we book?” We run several, and from the outside they can look alike. They all start with the same reindeer and the same guides, but they differ in length, in what else happens on the day and in who they are built for.
This page is our own overview of the reindeer experiences on sale for the 2026–2027 season, written from the product pages so the details match what you book. Our working reindeer belong to Kuoksa Reindeer Stories and live at Kuoksajärvi, outside Rovaniemi.
Short answer: for most people the right starting point is the Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure — from 159 €, 3 hours including pick-up, with a 2–3 km reindeer sleigh safari, winter clothing, cookies and juice. If you want more in one day, the combinations add ice fishing, snowmobiles, huskies or an evening aurora watch. You can see every option on our reindeer activities page.

Kuoksa Reindeer Stories was founded by Jouni Savukoski, whose family comes from Savukoski, about 200 kilometres north-east of Rovaniemi, where reindeer herding has been passed down through generations. His grandfather was a Chief of District in the Kemin-Sompio Reindeer Herding Cooperative.
Most of the family’s reindeer spend the year herding out in the forest. The ones you meet on our tours are the trained working reindeer kept at Kuoksajärvi. That is also why every winter reindeer tour on this page starts the same way: we collect you, drive you out to Kuoksa, dress you in our winter clothing and introduce you to the herd before anyone gets into a sleigh.

The classic: Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure
The Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure is our core reindeer tour. It lasts 3 hours from pick-up to drop-off, is rated very easy, and costs from 159 €. The centrepiece is a 2–3 km reindeer safari through the forest; the product page describes the sleigh part as about 40 minutes.
Included, as listed on the product page:
- 2–3 km reindeer safari in the forest of Lapland
- information about the life of reindeer, the reindeer farm and reindeer herding in general
- an English-speaking guide (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, German and Finnish on request, with limited availability)
- winter clothing in adult and child sizes: overalls, boots, gloves and socks
- cookies and juice
- pick-ups within a 10 km radius of Rovaniemi city centre, in an air-conditioned car
One detail worth knowing: between 1 December and 10 January, drop-offs for this tour are included only to selected locations — Postmaster Hotel, Rovaniemi city centre, the Ollerovaara area and Santa Claus Village.
Reindeer plus something else: our combination tours
If you only have a day or two, many guests prefer to combine the reindeer with a second activity. These are the combinations on sale:
- Ice Fishing with Reindeer — from 159 €, 3.5 hours. A reindeer sleigh ride to our ice-fishing spot, fishing with equipment and instructions, local snacks and warm drinks by the campfire, then the sleigh back.
- Kuoksa Reindeer & Snowmobile Adventure — from 249 €, 5 hours. The 2–3 km reindeer sleigh ride, a Lappish salmon soup by the fire in a teepee, then about one hour of snowmobile driving.
- Kuoksa Husky & Reindeer Adventure — from 349 €, 5 hours. A 5 km self-driven husky ride, a 2–3 km reindeer sleigh ride and open-fire salmon soup in a teepee.
- Lapland Bucketlist Adventure with Huskies, Reindeer & Snowmobiles — from 449 €, 6 hours, rated moderate. About an hour of snowmobiling, the 5 km husky ride, the reindeer sleigh ride, salmon soup lunch and a photographer, in a group of at most 16.
The snowmobile combinations have their own rules: you need a driving licence and must be 18 or older to drive, and the product pages explain the self-liability and the twin-drive tickets.
Reindeer after dark: the Northern Lights Tour Reindeer Safari
The Northern Lights Tour Reindeer Safari (from 179 €, 3.5 hours) is the evening version: a 2–3 km sleigh ride through the forest at night, reindeer stories, warm berry juice and cookies, while we keep an eye on the sky. We are honest about the aurora: it is nature, and nothing on this tour can promise it. What you will always get is the reindeer, the quiet forest and the stories. Two of our reindeer tours are private, for your group only, from 990 € per booking:
- Private Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure — 3 hours, the same farm visit and 2–3 km reindeer safari, with warm berry juice and cookies and our winter clothing.
- Private Reindeer Sleigh Ride & Santa Visit — 2.5 hours, an approximately 1 km sleigh ride followed by a 30-minute meeting with Santa Claus in a private kota, a gift for each child, and a Santa’s Elf with your family from pick-up to drop-off.
Note that the private tours have a 7-day free cancellation window rather than 24 hours.
Outside the snow season: the reindeer farm visit
Reindeer do not disappear when the snow melts. Our visit of an authentic reindeer farm in summer and autumn (from 122 €, 1 hour 30 minutes) runs from 30 April to 13 November at a farm in Sierijärvi village in Rovaniemi. There is no sleigh ride — instead you meet the sleigh-pulling reindeer on their “summer holiday”, can feed them, and hear about the reindeer herders’ year. Transport, guiding in English and Finnish, and warm berry juice and cookies are included. Its cancellation terms are different from the winter tours, so please read them on the product page.
The small print that applies to most of our reindeer tours
These points are copied from the product pages of the shared-group winter tours; the private tours and the summer farm visit have their own rules.
- If the weather does not allow a sleigh ride, the tour is arranged as a reindeer walk instead.
- At least 2 people are required on weekdays and Saturdays, and at least 4 on Sundays and public holidays.
- Children under 13 must be accompanied by adults paying the full price, and infants must not sit on laps.
- Please wait in your hotel lobby 10 minutes before your pick-up time.
- Tours may be cancelled or rescheduled in extreme weather.
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the activity; after that the fee is 100%.
- The tours are not wheelchair or stroller accessible.
The site-wide EARLY27 winter code does not apply to husky and reindeer tours.
How to choose — and combining with your stay
Book the Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure if you want the reindeer themselves to be the whole story, at a gentle pace, with time to ask the guide everything. Choose a combination instead if your days in Rovaniemi are limited and you want a second Lapland activity without another transfer. Choose the evening safari if you would like a chance of the Northern Lights, and a private tour if you are celebrating or simply want the reindeer to yourselves.

Which StayLapland reindeer tour is the shortest?
Among the winter tours, the Kuoksa Reindeer Adventure takes 3 hours including pick-up. The private Reindeer Sleigh Ride & Santa Visit takes 2.5 hours, and the summer and autumn farm visit 1 hour 30 minutes.
Is winter clothing included?
Yes on the winter reindeer tours: overalls, boots and gloves in adult and child sizes are provided, as listed on each product page.
What happens if there is not enough snow for a sleigh?
If the weather conditions do not allow a sleigh ride, the tour is arranged as a reindeer walk instead.
Can children join?
Yes. Children under 13 must be accompanied by adults paying the full price, and infants must not sit on laps. The combinations with huskies or snowmobiles are not suitable for children under 3.
Does the EARLY27 discount work on reindeer tours?
No. The current EARLY27 winter offer excludes husky and reindeer tours.
